MASTERS GALLERY - JOANE CARDINAL-SCHUBERT: WORKS FROM THE ESTATE

Join us at the opening reception of JOANE CARDINAL-SCHUBERT: WORKS FROM THE ESTATE this Saturday, March 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a Talk with Lindsey Sharman, Curator of the Art Gallery of Alberta at 2 p.m. The exhibit runs March 9 to March 23.

Joane Cardinal Schubert (1942 – 2009) was an artist, curator and activist whose body of work addressed Indigenous experiences, the deep struggle for cultural autonomy and her personal history as an Indigenous woman in modern-day Canada. Cardinal-Schubert drew upon autobiographical references, the history of Western Colonialism and art history in a career that spanned over four decades. She received many accolades, including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal in 2005 and in 2018, the opening of Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School.

Each mentor has generously donated a one-hour meeting to share their expertise and experience with a successful bidder. Proceeds from the auction will help to provide safe housing and comprehensive support services for women and children leaving family violence as they transition into the community, free from abuse. CONTEMPORARY CALGARY - ART PASS

Discover the world of contemporary art like never before with Contemporary Calgary's exciting new program, presented in partnership with the Calgary Public Library. The Art Pass acts as a pass to access Contemporary Calgary and can be checked out of the Library like any other book. The art pass is in the form of a living guestbook that invites visitors to share their thoughts and reflections or even draw a sketch right in the book. The goal of the book is the spark dialogue and help visitors reflect on the art and how it speaks to them.

Over time, these membership books will be a collection of thoughts and reflections from neighbours in the city and will start to tell their own story about the people in our community and how art brings joy and reflection to our lives.

To partake in this exciting new program, simply follow these steps:
1. Check out this book (No really, check it out of the Library!)
2. Stop by Contemporary Calgary and check in at reception.
3. Visit, get inspired and share your thoughts! (write, sketch or doodle!)
4. Return the book to the Library and spread the word using #CheckOutCC
