George will be performing at the auction and debuting his original paintings for the very first time to the Pure West audience, where they will be auctioned. In addition to great art and music, the event features a welcome cocktail from Eau Claire Distillery and canapés prepared by Deane House. Tickets are available online.

After the event, stay for dinner at Deane House! DINNER IN THE BIG SMOKE ~ Enjoy a regional culinary exploration of early summer ingredients with scents of grilled applewood smoke in the air. Barbecue favourites and seasonal specialties combine for a true welcome to summer eating in the heart of Inglewood. Tickets are available online.

Do you want to make the experience extra special?

WHYTE MUSEUM OF THE CANADIAN ROCKIES- J.E.H. MACDONALD: THE O'HARA ERA

June 15 - October 20 | 11 Bear St, Banff

We are looking forward to Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies' incredible summer exhibition. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to view a collection of works by Group of Seven artist J.E.H. MacDonald from public and private collections. Commemorating the hundredth anniversary of his first trip to Lake O'Hara, J.E.H. MacDonald: The O'Hara Era promises to be an exceptional experience, with the Whyte Museum as the sole venue.

The show is strengthened by original research conducted by geologists Patricia Cucman and the late Stanley Munn, who meticulously identified the exact locations of MacDonald's works. The exhibit includes photographs and discoveries such as paint scrapings and teacup shards that have been found in these exact locations, providing further insight into MacDonald's creative process and daily life during his time at Lake O'Hara.

Plan your trip to Banff to view the beautiful and informative exhibit sponsored by Masters Gallery. Learn more information on the Whyte Museum's website.

CALGARY BLACK FILM FESTIVAL

Event in Review

The opening night and red carpet event of the fourth edition of the Calgary Black Film Festival was a night to remember! We enjoyed seeing so many of our friends there. Key members of the Calgary community attended the much-awaited screening of Los Angeles filmmaker, Manuela Dalle's, 'Dancing in A-Yard' at The Globe Cinema. This was a moving documentary that follows a modern dance choreographer detailing the journey of several inmates incarcerated in a US prison, as they create and prepare for their own performance.

We look forward to welcoming everyone next year! Stay up to date with the Calgary Black Film Festival and view photos from this year's festival on their Facebook page.

CONTEMPORARY CALGARY -  LOOK: THE DADA BALL

Event in Review

LOOK: The Dada Ball—presented by Rogers— was an extraordinary success! Contemporary Calgary raised a record-breaking $2.2 million dollars, made possible by the entire community, including an extraordinary gift from Heather Edwards of $1 million.  It was an unforgettable evening of avant-garde art, marking the tenth anniversary of LOOK and Contemporary Calgary. Guests stepped into a world of eccentric accessories, mismatched patterns and bold colours, embracing the whimsical and rebellious nature of the Dada art movement.

Special thanks to our Honorary Chairs Morris & Ann Dancyger, Marcel Dzama, and Faye HeavyShield, along with our LOOK 2024 Chair, Board of Directors Co-Chair, and founder of MODE Models International, Kelly Streit, for continuing to make LOOK one of the top galas in the country. It was an evening of unparalleled creativity and celebration that will make a lasting impact on Contemporary Calgary's programs and exhibitions.

We look forward to seeing you there next year! View photos from the event here.
