YOUTH SINGERS OF CALGARY - PRISMA NOW: LIGHT UP THE WORLD

Join us at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium on May 11 at 7:00 p.m. for the Youth Singers of Calgary's annual spring show. Performers grade three to young adult lead the audience through a musical journey exploring  each person's unique ability to shine. The performers will sing unique arrangements in a variety of musical genres and a number of pieces will be brought to life with choreography.  An evening with fun for the whole family! CALGARY BLACK FILM FESTIVAL

May 24-28 | Globe Cinema - 617 8 Ave SW & online

The fourth Calgary Black Film Festival (CBFF) is back in person and online to amplify the voices of Afro-descendants. Running May 24  – 28, 2024, the festival includes film screenings and educational panels. 

Join us for the opening night red carpet event at the Globe Cinema on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. for the viewing of Manuela Dalle's Dancing in A-Yard, a documentary that follows a modern dance choreographer and the journey of several inmates incarcerated in a US prison. 

A few highlights include films Who I Am Not, Le Voyage de Talia and Port of a Prince. The festival also features the Fabienne Colas Foundation’s BEING BLACK IN CANADA short film series sponsored by Netflix.

The CBFF Black Market is an industry series where esteemed professionals share real-world experiences on critical filmmaking and social issues. 

Through 35 films, panels and workshops This hybrid fourth edition is designed to resonate with all audiences, showcasing the talents of creators from diverse backgrounds. Get your tickets and learn more information online.

WHYTE MUSEUM OF THE CANADIAN ROCKIES- J.E.H. MACDONALD: THE O'HARA ERA

June 15 - October 20 | 11 Bear St, Banff

We are looking forward to Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies' incredible summer exhibition. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to view over 100 works by Group of Seven artist J.E.H. MacDonald from public and private collections. Commemorating the hundredth anniversary of his first trip to Lake O'Hara, J.E.H. MacDonald: The O'Hara Era promises to be an exceptional experience, with the Whyte Museum as the sole venue.

The show is strengthened by original research conducted by geologists Patricia Cucman and the late Stanley Munn, who meticulously identified the exact locations of MacDonald's works. The exhibit includes photographs and discoveries such as paint scrapings and teacup shards that have been found in these exact locations, providing further insight into MacDonald's creative process and daily life during his time at Lake O'Hara.
